Rewards and Consequences

  1. Follow directions quickly! - Keeping on task and doing what your teacher asks keeps our class running smoothly.

  2. Raise your hand for permission to speak. - If we are listening, we are learning.

  3. Raise your hand to get out of your seat. - Unless given permission, being out of your seat is considered aimless wandering and being off-task.

  4. Make smart choices! - 100% effort at all times!

  5. Keep your dear teacher happy! - This is just a fun way to remind the kids that if they are following the previous four rules, their teacher is happy, and a happy teacher makes a happy class!

Discipline Policy

Our class uses the "behavior card" system. Each child is given 5 color cards - green, blue, yellow, orange, and red. If the student breaks a rule, is disruptive or defiant, s/he will be asked to change a card.

Green - Great character!
Blue - a warning
Yellow - consequence, laps at recess
Orange - consequence, behavior think sheet, time away from activity, laps at recess
Red - lose a recess and write up a behavior report describing what they did, what rule was broken, etc. These will be taken home and signed by the parent. The student will not get a recess back until that report is brought in signed.

If the behavior persists, a phone call will be made to the parents. A referral may also be issued and a parent conference scheduled to discuss the student's behavior.

There are many rewards for following the rules:

  1. Gold Slips - Good behavior, outstanding character, displays of responsibility and kindness are all ways to earn a Gold Slip. When a student earns 5 Gold Slips, he or she may visit the Lockheed Runway for a 10-minute visit - games, computer, videos, toys, etc. are all available for some fun reward time.

  2. Chance Tickets - These are tickets given to the students for turning in homework on time, listening in class, being on task, having clean desks, class participation, etc. When a student collects 5 tickets, he or she may trade them in for a Gold Slip.

  3. Treasure Box - If a student stays on his or her Green card all week, he or she will have an opportunity to pick a treasure from the class treasure box.

  4. Special Activities - The less time we spend on discipline, the more time we have for Art, Music, little parties and treats, etc.

  5. A Happy Teacher - A well-behaved class makes a happy teacher. A happy teacher makes a happy class!
