Welcome to my website!
I am currently a 5th grade teacher at Milford Elementary, a school within the Cobb County School District. This will be my 11th year as a teacher! Previously, I subbed at all grade levels for one year, taught 3rd grade for 8 years, and last year was my first year teaching 5th. I really like this grade level, and I'm eager to get to know you!
I earned my Bachelor's of Science degree in Education at University of Wisconsin in Oshkosh, WI in 1998. My first teaching position was third grade at Friendly Hills Elementary in Joshua Tree, California. It was quite a distance from where I was born and raised, but I had no problems spreading my wings because I am fairly adventurous, and it was just another adventure!
After five years at FHES, I decided that it was once again time to spread my wings. I considered which part of the country I hadn't yet had a chance to discover, and the South seemed to be a great fit to my interests. After visiting and confirming my initial thoughts, I was asked to teach third grade at Lockheed Elementary in the Marietta City Schools district. I learned many things at Lockheed and enjoyed the experience of teaching in a very ethnically diverse school. It was very exciting to learn about all the different cultures!
Three years after I moved to Georgia, I thought that it would be nice to be back in Wisconsin with the rest of my family. So I packed my bags and headed home! While home in the North, I was able to reconnect with all my nieces and nephews, brothers and sisters, and of course my parents. My friends, too, were very happy to have me home!
A year later, I was called to go back to Georgia! So once again, I packed up my bags and headed south. I received a call from the principal at Milford Elementary, and the rest is history. The 2008-2009 school year will be my second year teaching at Milford. I have so many exciting ideas and lessons planned for the year. I hope my students will be ready to learn!!! As our theme for the year is Racing, our motto will be "Racing for the Finish Line!" It will be a tough race - a lot of hard work - but a race that we will win!!!
Tidbits:
I am the fourth child of five.
I have two brothers, both older. I also have two sisters, one older and one younger.
I have two nieces and eight nephews!
I am a devoted Green Bay Packers fan. Go, Pack! Go!!!
I love to read. It's true. I don't just say it, I believe it! Some of my favorite authors are Patricia Polacco, Shel Silverstein, Chris Van Allsburgh, Roald Dahl, Beverly Cleary, and so many more!
I enjoy movies a lot. Some of my favorites are "Princess Bride", "Pollyanna", "Where the Heart Is", "Steel Magnolias", and of course all the many teacher movies!
During the winter, I crochet a lot because it keeps me warm and cozy.
My favorite color is orange. It used to be green but lately it's been all about orange - an orange phone, orange highlighters, orange markers, orange sticky notes, orange paper ... orange orange orange! I even love oranges, the fruit!
Office supplies, in general, make me happy! Specifically, I like a good pen.
I love to spend time and energy on my students, and I can only hope that they will enjoy and appreciate all that their teachers do for them throughout the years!
